Key Takeaways
- When it comes to fall 2026 hair color trends, look to apricot shades, root creamy blonde, and minky plus to be everywhere.
- Experts also say classic shades such as smoky brunette and '90s honey highlights will continue to be big this fall.

Celebrity colorist Jenna Perry says that a lot of reds we’ll see this fall will be softer, like a divine apricot. The key to keeping color fresh is some needed TLC. “I love pairing a seasonal color refresh with a nourishing treatment to ensure the fair is healthy and shiny,” Perry says. She recommends using something like Olaplex’s No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and a good heat protectant for when you’re styling hair (we like the K18 HeatBounce Conditioning Heat Protectant Spray).
Maple Leaf Blonde
Neil Mockford
Celebrity colorist and founder of Beauty Supply Emaly Baum says to think of maple leaf blonde like a soft beige of the classic golden blonde. “This color offers a seamless melty root that gives a soft dimension,” Baum says. “It’s perfect for post-summer when a blonde gets too blonde from the sun; it brings depth and shine back to their bleach wash hair.”
She recommends the ROZ Foundation Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner to keep your blonde looking fresh.
Glossy Chestnuts
Theo Wargo
“I envision fall 2026 as a season bathed in warmth and richness,” says Perry. “Hair color will embrace that natural luxury vibe.” Here, you’ll want to think deep, glossy brunettes and multi-dimensional chestnuts, she adds.
Mink Brown

Baum says to think of a mink brown is a true medium brown that’s rich and shiny, but still understated. “It almost has a vintage feel to it,” she says. “It’s very neutral in tone. Unlike the dark espresso brown we’ve been seeing, this is softer and has less contrast.”
Creamy Gold
Jeff Kravitz
For blondes, Perry predicts that everyone is going to lean into creamy, golden shades that she says feel more sophisticated. “It’s about creating a look that feels expensive, yet effortless,” she says. Plus, it will transition into richer, more grounded shades that gives that cozy luxe vibe.
Strawberry Brunette

Daisy Edgar-Jones’s whirlwind Sense and Sensibility press tour has perfectly coincided with a new color debut: Strawberry brunette. Created by LA-based colorist Jacob Schwartz, it’s an overall wash of brunette with a warm undertone. It’s a fresh and low-maintenance way to go red(ish) without the full commitment.
’90s Honey Highlights
Steve Granitz
An ode to the ’90s and pre-Y2K era, these honey and caramel highlights have golden and warm hair tones for autumn with depth at the base color.” Think Jessica Alba [or] Jennifer Lopez circa ’90s,” says Olivia Casanova, colorist and co-owner of IGK salon.

Both Perry and Casanova see the viral Scandinavian hairline, which has been declared the It hair shade this summer, going strong well into the colder months. For Casanova, she even sees it going beyond the hairline and covering all of your hair. “[It] has a beige-y toned baby lights to the root throughout the head, with a brighter hairline blending into even brighter ends,” she says.

Arguably the most viral hair color trend of 2025, “recession blonde” is still going. It’s both an aesthetic and a practical way to take care of hair during economic stress (or somebody who simply can’t make it to the salon regularly). Let your darker roots grow in to offset the expensive costs of regular touch-ups. With many rethinking their finances, you’ll see many wear darker, more natural hues.
Warm Bronde

Perry says to think of last year's bronde trend as something more eternal, just with more dimensional roots and golden highlights. “Great for transitioning summer highlights into the fall,” she says.
Gray Blending

Casanova predicts more people will be embracing their natural grays as the weather cools. “Gray blending is continuing to gain more and more popularity,” she says. “Not just because it’s less maintenance and less money spent, but because I think more women are empowering one another to age gracefully and more naturally.”
Plush Velvet
Mike Marsland
For darker hair, Perry says to go velvety dark. It brings a cool tone and is a low-maintenance fall hair color, especially if you’re looking to add some depth to your natural, rich brunette shade when it gets colder.
